It's been months since we camped in Florida and I get to missing it. But since garden tomatoes are late this year because of crazy monsoon weather. I must adjust. Can't leave here and trust watering and garden gathering to other people much less any canning of salsa if they ever do get ripe. So kinda stuck here in paradise nowheresville for now. Didn't plan early trip 'cause as wife and I discussed, where we gonna go that's prettier than here right now? So, for my temporary Florida fix I built a mini-Florida box on south side of the house. It has three rescue plants I got from a store really cheap cause they were sorta killing them. A Key lime and two Cavendish bananas. They are coming along except when I moved the lime plant, my one lime from one plant got knocked off. So, I expect this will greatly affect spot market lime prices this year. Look for higher lime prices in the store, so better stock up! Come winter, the lime will have to come inside. But the bananas can be cut off at the ground and mulched hopefully to grow again next year since they are hardier. Since I now have Florida in a box, I can cover the roots if it gets too cold this winter (can very occasionally once in a blue norther moon get down to single digits here), and then cover the box with a tarp and drop a light bulb or two in there. But actually, roots should be fine without candles cause I have a heat sink in the ground underneath the box. Heat sinks to be discussed in a later post. Well, here are the pics. Luckly a couple of plastic flamingos flew in to complete the decor. The sign, I painted. I am a decent poet, but I can't paint worth a dern. But its mine. Pleases me. And after all, if it pleases us, isn't that what really, really, really matters? HAPPY GARDENING!!
